What Birthday Gift Should You Buy For Your Mother?
When I was young man, I tended to ignore my mother’s birthdays. And, she would be very upset when a birthday passed and she hadn’t heard from me. For me, birthdays were something to ignore. They only meant that you were growing older, getting closer to the end of life. Then, I began studying the Fourth Way and learned about Internal Considering. Internal Considering means that you consider the other person and do what makes them happy. It took little effort for me to buy a birthday card for my mother, and it would make her very happy. Birthdays didn’t matter a bit too me, but they mattered a lot to my mother so why not make her happy?
With just a little more effort I could buy a gift for my mother’s birthday. What to buy? She loved flowers especially red roses. So, a dozen red roses made an excellent gift. Once we started having children, my mother’s favorite gifts were hand made from the kids. She loved to get their drawings, watercolors, and little wooden projects. Pictures of the kids were always welcome. And a phone call from her darling grandkids was a wonderful surprise.
One of the top gifts we ever gave my mom were airline tickets for a visit to our home in California. She was afraid to fly, but she steeled up her nerves for the flight From Philadelphia on two separate occasions. It was worth it to see her grandchildren and she couldn’t thank us enough.
Now that the kids are all grown up, we get birthday gifts from them. For me it doesn’t matter. Usually I receive plants. They stay in the house and later I transplant them into the flower garden. They also give me T-shirts usually tie-dye. I receive CD’s also, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Moody Blues. One of my favorite birthday gifts was the grapevine that my son gave me. Another favorite was the photo collage that my daughter made for me.
My wife is a lot like my mother. Birthdays are important to her and she loves to receive gifts. One of her favorites was the cell phone I bought her a couple years ago. She especially liked the fact that there was a cell phone camera on it. I’ve added cell phone accessories during the past two years. She also enjoyed the Sony Video Camera that I bought so she could film the grandkids at their different events. Though, I really use it more that she does. Day trips to San Francisco or Santa Cruz are appreciated also.
Our kids and grandkids never forget their mother or grandmother’s birthday. Again, it is the handmade gifts that she enjoys most. Over the years they bought her flowers, a subscription to Direct T.V., books, and paintings. One of her favorite gifts was tickets to the Oakland Raiders football game that they chipped in to buy for us last year. And of course, there is always the night out to dinner at a nice restaurant.
There are many different gifts that you can buy for your mother. Now days, you can even search the Internet for ideas. You can buy coffee mugs, collectables, personalized gem stone jewelry, canvas tote bags, photo bracelets, gift baskets, teddy bears, computer software, shopping cards, and tons more. The main thing is never forget your mother’s birthday. It means a lot to her, and it will mean a lot to you as you get older.
